On a visit
to the New Moon Café in Oshkosh, you might find
college students poring over their textbooks, businesspeople
tapping the keys on their laptops, folk musicians tuning
up their guitars, and everyone from teens to senior
citizens enjoying a fresh cup of coffee and the company
of friends. At the New Moon Café, we do our best
to make everyone feel welcome.
Along with great food
and drinks, we also provide a comfortable and inspiring
atmosphere. We’ve mixed traditional café
tables with cozy couches and created a background of
warm earthtones and artwork by local artists. On many
evenings we host open
mic nights, poetry readings, and live music.
Artist interested in showing please read below and email newmoonart@yahoo.com
The New Moon is a great place to display artwork, but it is also unique. Our “art wall” is large and centrally located in the shop, and so we ask that the artists we feature utilize as much of the space as possible.
Photography:
- All pieces must be framed or matted. We will not accept photos that are simply tacked or taped to the wall.
- Photos themselves must be 8x10 inches or larger.
Paintings/drawings:
- All paintings must be on stretched canvas or hardboard, and must be hung correctly with wire. If works are water color or drawings and are on paper, artwork must be framed or matted.
Ceramics, Sculpture, and other 3D art:
- We have live musicians at the café on a regular basis, so, for the sake of art-safety, all 3dimensional pieces have to hang on the wall.
The Art Wall:
- There are NO nails or screws allowed in the plaster. High-hanging pieces can be hung using clear or picture wire strung from the anchors we have currently in place. (9 hooks 4 feet apart)
- Small nails and screws can be used in the two boards that run the length of the wall. We have hammers and pliers for your use at the shop, but you’ll need to bring your own nails, tacks, wire, etc.
Having a show:
Artists are featured for one entire month. Art should be hung shortly after the previous artist has taken his or her show down, and before the first Saturday of the month to coincide with the downtown Gallery Walk.
If you are looking to sell your artwork, you must provide the café with a price list and contact information. If people are interested in purchasing art, we ask that they pay in advance, and pick up their purchased piece at the end of the month. If you aren’t looking to sell, we still strongly encourage you to post an artist statement and contact information—that’s what the art community is about, after all!
***regarding artwork involving nudity/explicit content. All content must be approved my new moon. Although nudity is acceptable under artistic terms, violent, sexual, and discriminating artwork will be subject to approval.
